Harmful If Swallowed.

In regards the connectivity issues with Stardock Central, Stardock.Com, Wincustomize.Com and other sites which Stardock hosts/owns.

At this time, Level 3 Communications and Cogent Communications are at odds. As a result, any net traffic exclusively through Level 3 connections to the Cogent network is not making it to its destination.

We'll see over the coming little bit whether they come to an agreement or other peering relationships are established to bypass to blockage.

The problem is neither on your end or our end. We are unfortunately stuck in the middle.

Finally able to acceess this.
Home main ISP: Brighthouse-Internet Junction. Don't work
Back up ISP at home: AOL-able to connect...just discovered this this morning! Strange, though...cause I access AOL through my cable internet service. I have to open this site on AOL...if I try open it via IE over AOL, it doesn't work. Now, I know why I never got rid of AOL..lol

Both Co-Lo's, Chicago and California, are on the Cogent end of things, so changing server doesn't help (

Well, isn't that just craptacular!! Someone at level3 needs a good swift kick in the rear for this little temper tantrum.. Well, at least I know why I can't get to ANY SD sites from my home computer.. Maybe I'll try to connect from home through the office from home over the VPN..

Thanks for pinning this one, and to Nick and Mike for the heads-up.

Today is the first day I have been able to get on here since day before yesterday. Road Runner said it was a third party problem, and affected all RR customers, but I am back up, for now! Smile!

So, did someone give in? I can finally get SD Central and WC to come up...

hehe... check this letter out on CNET http://news.com.com/5208-1038-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=10185&messageID=74492&start=-1  I plan to switch to another ISP.  I have been trying to contact cogent to find out about their free offer.  It may not be the best permanent solution, but at least if people are going to stick it to me they can do it on their dime.  And frankly, I can use the money somewhere else right now.

I plan to switch to another ISP

What good is switching ISP's going to do? You aren't suffering these problems because of anything your direct ISP did, I have RoadRunner and I've been having this problem since yesterday but there's really nothing RR can do, they are at the mercy of Level3 and Cogent. From reading these messages:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14511283~root=news,68174

It looks like maybe Cogent has made a practice of abusing the peering system in order to transfer large quantites of bandwidth onto Level3's network while not having to take anywhere near the same amount of traffic from the Level3 network. I'm not saying that the actions of Level3 were warranted or mature, just that switching ISP's is really putting the blame in the wrong place. Just my .02..

I'm going to be looking for something that does not use level three, or at least doesn't depend on them entirely.  No matter how this gets resolved, I don't agree with what level three did and I have no confidence in them.  RoadRunner was caught like I was, that's true.  But I was already a little unhappy with RoadRunner concerning some of their issues locally.

Cogent has an offer that seems interesting, and when I can get through to them I am going to check that out.  If it seems OK, then I will take them up on it and it surely will help me financially.  If I don't like it, I have a whole list of other providers and I will be contacting them with questions I didn't know to ask before.

I have been following the issue closely over the past few days, including this thread on slashdot... http://ask.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=164413&threshold=1&mode=thread&commentsort=1&op=Change

this is a better link maybe..  http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/10/05/2247207&tid=95
